Make an outdoor work of Land Art!

What materials would you use? You can use soil, stones, water, plants, branches and leaves or anything else you find.

Will your artwork remain or will rain and wind cause it to change or perhaps disappear?

What does the artwork look like? Are you building a sculpture or removing something?

LAND ART

Land art is an art movement that emerged in the United States in the 1960s. Artists in this movement did not use common materials such as brushes and paint, but things that were found in nature. They could also create large sculptures or structures, known as installations, outdoors. These works were usually made and displayed outdoors, where the artists changed the landscape by adding or removing something. Some works of land art only existed for a short time and have since disappeared – all that remains of them today are photographs.

Artists who have worked with land art include Alice Aycock, Robert Smithson, Nancy Holt, Richard Long, James Turrell and Michael Heizer.
